Thought for the Week. “Inoculate yourself against further bouts of anger by preparing for them and forgiving your transgressors in advance. The Stoic Emperor Marcus Aurelius advised that every morning on arising, we should remind ourselves that we are going to encounter ‘the busybody, the thankless, the overbearing, the treacherous, the envious, the unneighbourly,’ and this rings as true in our day as it did in the second century. Aurelius elaborated that some people act in this way because they do not truly understand good and evil, and that our souls cannot be debased by their actions. Further, is we do understand the good, we will understand that they share with us the same humanity and reason, and that we cannot hate them, but must value them as kinsmen, placed in the world for cooperation, and not for resentment and aversion. These are good Stoic suggestions that good Christians who wish to avoid [the deadly sin of] wrath should endorse and practise daily! (Kevin Vost, The Seven Deadly Sins)

During the summer the Portuguese Mass at 11am is cancelled, and we have one Sunday morning Mass at 11am, with no 9.30am or 12.30pm Masses. Aug. 26 is the annual Carnival Mass at 6pm.

There will be a fund raising cake sale on Sunday July 16th and Sunday 23rd July after 9.30 and 12.30 masses to help raise funds for our annual Carnival Mass and street party event which is held on August 26th at 6.00. Donations of home-made and shop brought cakes would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to donate cakes or help sell cakes after 9.30 or 12.30 Mass please can you ring Margaret on 07890 725983
