The parish of St Mary of the Angels has a long history of social outreach. Starting from the Oblates of St Charles through the years, with an especially vibrant period under the parish priest Father Michael Hollings, the Centre continues that work and is a real example of Christian responsibility and charity in action.
As the whole parish complex has gone through extensive refurbishment works under the current parish priest, the Centre too has benefited. Now a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and restroom facilties serves a group of 30-40 men five days a week. Local people and businesses also donate the occasional treat for the men – which always brightens up the day.
As an important part of the parish, the
Father Michael Hollings Centre provides food and shelter for the men
of the road in the Notting Hill area. Opening at 7am, the Centre
is a safe environment where the men can relax. During weekdays,
breakfast is provided and the Centre happily accepts donations of
clothes which always prove useful. Financial donations are also
helpful in providing support for this work to continue.
The Centre is run by Margarita Alves , with help from volunteers and serves as an opportunity for parishioners and locals to take on a bit of social responsibility themselves. The ethos of the Father Michael Hollings Centre is one of service and engagement. We hope to continue this work in the spirit of humilitas – Christian humility, the motto of the Oblates.
