St Mary of the Angels is a large, friendly and vibrant parish in a busy part of London. The Church was built in 1857, and for over 100 years was served by priests of the Order of St Charles Borromeo, whose motto HUMILITAS (humility) can be seen around the Church.
Originally, the parish served the Irish Immigrants who were building Paddington Station. Their numbers were later swelled by members of the Caribbean and Hispanic Communities. Now, St Mary's hosts a large Portuguese congregation, and includes parishioners from every part of the world. The parish is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster, and serves the varied and vibrant community of Bayswater and Notting Hill.
Our Masses have a regular weekly attendance of over one thousand people. Over the last few years we have completed the rebuilding and restoration of parts of the church and its buildings. As a result of this we have created the Father Michael Hollings Centre, dedicated to the memory of a former parish priest who devoted much of his ministry to serving the needs of the homeless. We have completely restored the Victorian decor of the interior of the church, also installing new lighting, heating, sanctuary furniture, and the building was consecrated by HE the Cardinal on 4th November 2007, during the 150th anniversary year of the parish.
